Strawberry Blossom Biscuit
Ingredients
- 62 g Tree Top Applesauce
- 27 g Tree Top Strawberry Flake Powder
- 250 g flour
- 9.20 g baking powder
- 67 g sugar
- 2.30 g baking soda
- 1.50 g salt
- 0.60 g cinnamon
- 103 g vegetable shortening
- 61 g buttermilk
- 59 g water
- 244 g strawberries – diced
- 13 g strawberry flavoring
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 F.
In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Using a pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture.
In a small mixing bowl, combine buttermilk, applesauce, water, diced strawberries, strawberry flake powder and strawberry flavoring. Add to well in dry mixture all at once. Using a fork, stir just until mixture is moistened.
Turn dough out on to lightly floured surface. Quickly knead dough by gently folding and pressing 10-12 strokes, or until dough is nearly smooth. Pat or lightly roll dough to 1/2″ thick and cut with biscuit cutter. Place biscuits one inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove biscuits from baking sheet and serve warm. Makes 10-12 biscuits.
